La Palette: The Chicago Palette – Michelle Grabner | ||||
Her palette is a concept; formal floating circles of painted wood. Dots placed in precise locations, lines drawn with hard straight edge and metal-point burnisher resulting in soft images on black backgrounds. Following strokes of pen or brush around a spiral or locations of small circles within larger circumference, balances heavy sculpture with lightness of smooth surface. A pattern emerges when looked at intently and searching for understanding; patterns providing motion where none appear to exist; pleasure can be seen and imagined. It is within the pauses between strokes, circles, lines, and background where true great art resides. Select an image to enlarge. |
